New Rules
Version 1, 2008
Airbrush on paper,
72 × 100 cm
The two words of the title are asymmetrically typeset over two horizontal lines, in seriffed roman capitals. The words are seen in outline, whereby two amorphous black forms that resemble a mountainous landscape behind them – and extending to either side of the drawing – are visible through the letters. The outlines are filled with one colour at the top, and one at the bottom, which dilute and seep into each other towards the middle. The ‘L’ of ‘RULES’ extends to form the stem of a wineglass, refracting the black back- ground to become its contents.

Version 4, 2009 The New Rules motif is printed onto PVC to form a stage set for a series of performances and film screenings for Lapdogs of the Bourgeoisie, a touring group show. The motif doubles as a screen, whereby all films are projected inside the wine glass.
